Crystal Kim
Flute

Music has been an integral part of Crystal’s life for longer than she can remember. She began taking piano lessons at the age of 4, learned violin at age 6, and finally found her current primary instrument, the flute, when she was 10. Throughout high school, she was heavily involved with solo activities as well as ensembles. She greatly enjoyed making music in small chamber ensembles as well as playing her favorite orchestra pieces in a symphony setting.

Ms. Kim earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, studying under Professors Philip Dikeman and Molly Barth. During her time at Vanderbilt, she took full advantage of her musically rich surroundings and seized every opportunity to expand her horizons. Her varied performance experience includes jazz flute, Broadway sets, opera pits, and unconventional chamber settings.

Crystal has been teaching beginner to intermediate students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2014. Though she teaches students of all ages, she especially loves working with children and takes a very positive, nurturing approach to teaching her younger students. Her main focus for all students lies in the often-forgotten importance of fundamentals, and in emphasizing the beauty of the tone above the beauty of the piece. She loves helping her students find their voices through their instruments and finds joy in watching music become a part of their lives.
