Guitar, Harp

Jess Garland is a dedicated guitar and harp instructor from Northeast Dallas. While attending Eastfield College, she studied classical guitar with Randy Nye. As her interest in the art form grew, Jess participated in many voice and guitar ensembles. She continued her education at Southern Methodist University, where she graduated with a major in Political Science.

In spite of her diverse educational pursuits, Jess has found that nothing matches her love for teaching guitar. Since 2007, she has offered guitar lessons to adults and children privately, and has also provided free lessons to children in South Dallas and Oak Cliff who have had a lack of music education in their community. She has also worked within the same communities as a teaching artist for other not-for-profit organizations.

Jess's wildly successful program has provided approximately 100 hours of free music education. Jess is a recipient of the 16-17 and 17-18 Special Projects Grant from the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. She used this grant to provide free guitar lessons to children during Summer 2017 and Spring 2018. Jess aspires to continue to provide music education to students of all ages, backgrounds, and musical interests.

Always willing to take on new challenges, Jess learned to play the harp under the guide of master harpist, Mary LeBus. As a well-respected musician in the community, Jess plays weddings, art galleries, and festivals with her guitar and harp.

Jess is currently learning the sitar under master sitarist, Dr. Amie Maciszewski.
