Malikha Mayes

Malikha Mayes is a young soprano from Fort Worth, Texas. She has loved all types of music since she was a toddler, but her passion for singing truly surfaced during her high school experience. Malikha had her first voice lesson during her sophomore year, at the age of 16. The voice lesson made her aware of not only the physical support, but also the emotional support needed to perform on a higher level. After this lesson, Malikha’s passion for singing and performing grew immensely, specifically her passion for opera music.

Malikha studied at Texas Tech University and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. In past performances, Malikha has had the opportunity to portray Cinderella’s Mother in Into the Woods and Sarah’s Friend in Ragtime with North Crowley High School. In the spring of 2016, she was featured as Dido in Texas Tech University Singer’s staged production of Dido and Aeneas. She has also performed the role of Mutter (Mother) in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Mrs. Hayes in Texas Tech Opera Theatre's production of Susannah by Carlisle Floyd, as well as an ensemble member in Le Nozze di Figaro and The Phantom of the Opera.

Malikha encourages her students to work hard and work smart, and to remember to always have fun with music. She believes every student has a gift, and it is her goal to accentuate each student’s unique qualities. Malikha will soon pursue a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance as a step towards her goal of becoming a professional Opera Singer and Opera voice teacher.
