Chris Ortiz is a guitarist and educator whose musical background varies from classical, to jazz, to rock. He has been an active performer in ensembles and bands for many years. His teaching has brought many students to perform regularly both as soloists and with others at local venues, write and record original music, and even earn scholarships in music.

Chris has taught and conducted guitar ensembles, string orchestras, rock bands, and even has experience in teaching elementary music. His performance experience includes years of playing guitar in solo performances, bands, guitar ensembles, accompanying soloists and choirs, and as a pit musician in musical theatre productions.

Chris studied music at San Jacinto College, where he was a music theory tutor in addition to his own studies in classical guitar, jazz guitar, and music composition

Chris is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Music Education and studying classical guitar under the tutelage of professor Tom Johnson at the University of North Texas, where he was awarded the prestigious and very competitive Terry Scholarship. In 2016, he studied the Kodály music teaching method by traveling to Hungary to attend workshops and lectures at the Kodály institute in Kecskemét. As a teacher of the classical guitar, he has also received training at the annual GuitarCurriculum.com teacher training. He has worked directly with the Austin Classical Guitar education team as an intern.

Chris' teaching is very student-centered, and his priority is for each student to walk away with a musical experience that is authentic and meaningful.
