Laurie DePauw is a dedicated and experienced voice and piano teacher with over 25 years of experience in teaching and performing. Her love for singing began in childhood, and she gave her first solo performances at church as a teenager. That early passion for music led her to pursue formal training, earning bachelor's degrees in both Vocal Performance and Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, followed by a master's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas. While at UNT, she was awarded multiple scholarships and held a prestigious Teaching Fellowship during her graduate studies.
Throughout her career, Laurie has performed in a wide variety of settings, including opera productions, musical theater, vocal competitions, solo recitals, and church services. She brings this breadth of experience into her teaching, helping students prepare for auditions, competitions, stage roles, and choral achievements such as all-state and honor choir placements. Many of her students have even gone on to be accepted into respected college music programs.
Laurie is passionate about helping students meet their musical goals, whether they're preparing for a specific opportunity or simply seeking to grow as singers. She has deep expertise in vocal technique and repertoire across styles and believes that strong foundational skills can empower a singer to perform any genre of music with confidence and freedom. Her teaching is student-centered and customized to fit individual goals, learning styles, and voices.
