Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, Diana Carreon Velazquez received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Luther College in 2021. Although her devotion lies in vocal music, she is also a classically trained guitarist, pianist, flutist, and clarinetist. From a young age, Diana’s passion for music paved the way towards her journey as an accomplished musician and first-generation high school and college graduate.
Her musical training started in high school, where she actively participated in various musical groups, including the Chancel and Handbell Choir at Velda Rose UMC, the MVHS Touring Guitar Ensemble, and the MVHS Jazz Choir. Under the mentorship of Jim Yancey, Diana had the opportunity to travel and perform both nationally and internationally.
Diana continued her musical journey at Luther College in Decorah, IA, where she was awarded the Weston Noble Music Scholarship. She had the privilege of joining the renowned Nordic Choir under the direction of Dr. Andrew Last and received extensive training from esteemed professionals, culminating in her BA in Music Education.
As a former high school choir director, Diana has been teaching music for the past three years. She instructs students of all ages and skill levels in voice, guitar, piano, flute, and clarinet. With her strong foundation in music education, Diana customizes her lessons to meet the unique needs and goals of each student. She emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive musical education, focusing on music theory, reading, and technique. Diana believes that mastering these fundamentals is essential for creating the beauty and magic in music that allows performers to express themselves fully and freely.
