Randy Taylor began studying piano at age 6 and continued those studies through his college years.  Over the years, he has performed at recitals, competitions, and with symphony orchestras, as well as in churches and various other venues.  He loves playing piano in many different styles - classical, jazz, pop, and country music.

At the age of 8, Mr. Taylor began to take a keen interest in drums and received his first set.  He began playing in his church one year later and continued to do so until the time came to leave for college. During his undergraduate studies, he took lessons and continued to play semi-professionally with many different groups. He also performed on drum set for many musicals during high school and college. He has continued to play in multiple bands, and to this day is still very much in demand as one of the finest drummers in the area.

At the age of 12, Mr. Taylor began formal instruction in percussion in junior high band as well as taking private lessons, to which he ascribes the most credit for his success.  He has performed with many bands, including touring Europe with the United States Collegiate Wind Band.  Additionally, he began playing in symphony orchestras at the age of 14 and has played with many different orchestras since that time. Currently, he is the timpanist with the Mesquite (TX) Symphony Orchestra.  Mr. Taylor has extensive performance in all areas of percussion including marching with the Trooper’s Drum and Bugle Corps (multi-tenors); recitals that included performing on mallet keyboard percussion instruments (xylophone, marimba, and vibraphone), multi-percussion, drum set, snare drum and accessory percussion.  Mr. Taylor is a seasoned performer in all aspects of percussion and is capable of teaching beginners through advanced students.  Mr. Taylor holds degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (Bachelor of Music Education with Percussion emphasis) and Texas Tech University (Master of Music – Percussion Performance).  He has also written and performed his own original percussion music.

In addition to his proficiency in percussion, Mr. Taylor is a skilled guitarist. He was formally trained in private lessons and has also learned much on his own. He enjoys performing many different styles of playing including lead, rhythm, and finger-style, and is a specialist in Western Swing guitar playing often referred to as the “Eldon Shamblin” style - playing moving bass notes with alternating moving chords.  With an extensive knowledge of chords and scales, Mr. Taylor is able to teach students who are beginners to intermediate and beyond.  He enjoys playing jazz, pop, rock, and country styles.

A remarkably versatile musician, Mr. Taylor is also a self-taught electric bass guitar player.  He currently plays bass guitar with the Al Fine Little Big Band in Tyler, Texas.  He has also played extensively in churches and several country and western bands.  He offers lessons to students who are at the beginner to the intermediate level and beyond. An on-going student himself, Mr. Taylor is constantly improving his own skills as well.

Mr. Randy Taylor is a very fine musician with multi-faceted talents and skills on many different instruments, and an excellent teacher match for any student.  He is more than capable of delivering top quality instruction due to his vast and varied training, skills, performances, and over three decades of successful teaching.
