Pianist Yi Liu has received acclaim for his dramatic interpretations, poetic sensitivity and brilliant technique. His accomplishments include winning third prize in the 30th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival competition in 2013, first prize in the Honors Competition at Berklee’s Boston Conservatory in 2016, and second prize for Chamber Music in the ENKOR Int'l Music Competition.

Mr. Liu has collaborated with many notable musicians, including violinists Katie Lansdale and Jin Zhou, violist Lila Brown, cellists Rhonda Rider and Nathaniel Taylor, and flutist Qi Wang. He has given numerous solo and chamber concerts both internationally and across the US, in cities such as Boston, Texas, California, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Suzhou and Salzburg. Yi has performed in Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall's Chamber Music Concert Series, as well as in their 'Celebrating Mozart's 250th Birthday' Concert. More recent performances have included Shanghai Concert Hall (2015, 2018), Hangzhou Grand Theatre (2015), and Boston Seully Hall (2015, 2016, 2017). In 2018, he performed in the International Musicians Concert Series (China and Turkey Exchange Concert) at Suzhou University of Science and Technology, and performed for the North Texas Collaborative Pianists at UNT on the Square.

Yi attended the prestigious Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg in 2016, participating in master classes with Arnaldo Cohen, Joseph Banowetz, Robert Levin, Sarah Bob, Jonathan Bass, Ashima Scripp and Michael Chertock. He studied under famed Chinese composer and pianist Yi-Qiang Sun throughout his undergraduate years, then went on to complete his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at Shanghai Conservatory with pianist Dr. Cheung-Yu Mo. Yi received his Graduate Degree from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, studying under pianist (and juror of the International Grieg Piano Competition) Ya-Fei Chuang. Currently, Yi is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts with Steinway Artist Adam Wodnicki at the University of North Texas College of Music.

Yi is a sought-after piano instructor whose specialties include music theory, ear training, and preparing students for ABRSM exams. His previous teaching experience includes Yamaha group keyboard classes at the Best Friend Music School in Shanghai (2008-2015) and the ABRSM-affiliated Ip Piano School in Boston (2016-2018). He tailors his lessons to best fit the needs and interests of each individual student, and enjoys helping students of all ages and skill levels to reach their musical goals.
