Anna Rawlins

Music has always been at the heart of Anna’s life. As a young girl she was often found at the piano picking out tunes by ear and singing loudly, much to the chagrin of her older brothers. Her mother, an accomplished vocalist, recognized her passion and interest and enrolled her in piano lessons in first grade. She continued in lessons throughout childhood and early adolescence when a family move took her out of the country and introduced her to The Royal Conservatory method. The more rigorous approach allowed her to stretch and grow as a musician.

Throughout her teen years, Anna participated in as many forms of music as she could, enjoying band, choir, musical theater and community theater. At church she was accompanying the congregation both on piano and, eventually, the organ.

While attending college, Anna began to teach piano lessons to the family for whom she often babysat, and she discovered a love of teaching and working with young children. She also continued her vocal studies through participation in her university choir. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies.

Now, a mother with five children, Anna’s life is still steeped in music and a desire to help shape young musicians. She continues to accompany local choirs and congregations, and began teaching private piano students in 2012. Her goal as a teacher is to help students connect with and develop a love for music as an expressive artform. She accomplishes this by helping them establish a wide-ranging repertoire, keeping lessons fun and engaging, and helping each student achieve a strong knowledge of music theory.
