Jay Lee is a guitarist/composer originally from Korea. He came to Texas to study music at UNT after having graduated from Chung-ang University with business degree. Studying music at the one of the most demanding program in U.S. was challenging for him. He had to get rid of bad habits first with teacher help and self-study.

While attending UNT and graduating with a music degree in Jazz Studies, he studied and focused on jazz, classical, music theory and improvisation. His jazz guitar teachers at UNT were Noel Johnston, Terry Hankins, Fred Hamilton, and his classical guitar teachers were Wann-dar Tan and Tom Johnson. He also had opportunities to play with Grammy award- winning artist Mike League at UNT.

After college, he went back to Korea where he gained valuable experience in the professional music community. He later returned to Texas to join his family. He continued to play music in DFW area before becoming stay-at-home dad in 2007. He opened a home guitar studio and kept passing his knowledge on students. Playing the guitar in the Brad Mezei jazz band was his musical outlet.

Jay formed the First Note in 2013. He plays lead guitar in First Note currently, and he is on the worship team at Korean Martyrs Catholic Church in Hurst.

Jay conveys his musical information effectively in an organized manner. He is able to express verbally to the same extent that he can express through his guitar. He also uses the piano to explain music theory for lessons. He does not want his students to go through trials and errors like he did at the music school, so Jay gives his best effort to teach students.
